FIFA World Cup 2014 - Awards - Fair Play
The
FIFA Fair Play award is awarded to the team which is found to be most
disciplined and adhering to the highest traditions of sportsmanship
on the field of play during the World Cup tournament. The teams which
qualify to the Second Round (Round of 16) are eligible for this
trophy. The Fair Play award winners receive a diploma, a fair play
medal for each player and official, and $50,000 worth of football
equipment to be used for youth development.
Initially
only a certificate was awarded, but during 1982 – 1994 a golden
trophy based on Sport Billy was awarded along with the certificate.
Now a days, the trophy has a figure of a footballer. The first
country to win the Fair Play award was Peru in 1970 FIFA World Cup
hosted in Mexico. Peru did not receive even a single yellow or red
card during the tournament. Spain was the winner of Fair Play award
in FIFA World Cup 2010 hosted in South Africa.
